Gucci Puts a Disney Spin on its Chinese New Year 2019 Collection

It's no secret that Gucci is a huge fan of Disney. Back in SS17, Alessandro Michele designed men's sweaters featuring Donald Duck; more recently, a Mickey Mouse handbag appeared on Gucci's SS19 runway show, immediately becoming one of the standout pieces.

For its Chinese New Year 2019 collection, Gucci once again nodded to three of Disney's iconic cartoon characters: the Three Little Pigs. A play on the fact that 2019 is the Year of the Pig, the collection features all three cartoon characters in the form of patches, placed upon the Gucci Ace sneakers and Supreme backpacks.

The Disney trio also appear on tote bags, wallets and other accessories, on top of a handful of clothing for men and women. Other pieces, such as scarves, beanies and pyjamas, feature Gucci's very own pretty-in-pink mascot instead.

Taking the eccentricity up a notch, Gucci has even designed several brooches of winged pigs (you know, like the saying, "if pigs can fly"?), which are pictured next to an adorable piglet in the collection's campaign. (Fun fact: this is not the first time a piglet has appeared on a Gucci campaign — just ask Harry Styles.)

If anything, these pieces will certainly be a great talking point once the CNY visitations begin. See the full collection below:

Gucci's Chinese New Year collection is now available in Gucci stores and on gucci.com.
