Cara Delevingne Does Tie-Dye the Grown-Up Way

When thinking of tie-dye, likely images of Grateful Dead concert t-shirts and DIY projects come to mind first. But the colorful trend is experiencing a renaissance, thanks to fashion's most luxurious labels. During the last few seasons, Maria Grazia Chiuri has filled the runway at Dior with elevated interpretations of the concept, and last night at TAG Heuer's auction event in London, Cara Delevingne took the look to the red carpet. In a sheer dress from Grazia Chiuri's Spring 2019 collection the actress offered an elegant take on a style once associated with psychedelic counterculture.

Delevingne's dress—sheer with embroidered blooms worked into the bodice and a gauzy floral skirt detailed with paint splattered accents—was a far cry from traditional tie-dye. It was a decidedly girly look for the star who switches her style regularly. (Earlier this month, Delevingne toyed with royal protocol when she wore a full tuxedo to Princess Eugenie's wedding). Last night was dedicated to giving back—the proceeds from Delevingne's photo auction went to her foundation, which is dedicated to female-centric charities—and the look felt perfectly in place at such a generous event.
